Description

Midwest Regional Taekwondo Hanmadang

The first annual Midwest Regional Taekwondo Hanmadang will be held at Chippewa Middle School, 4000 Okemos, MI on Saturday, October 19, 2019.

Taekwondo sparring is very well known as an Olympic sport. However, because of the high skill level and physical conditioning needed to be successful at sparring, the average Taekwondo School in the United States only has approximately 10% of the student body participating in sparring class and competitions. The Midwest Regional Taekwondo Hanmadang events are for the other 90% of Taekwondo students who do not participate in sparring.

The Midwest Regional Taekwondo Hanmadang offers the opportunity for the 90% to showcase their skills in traditional forms, creative forms, creative board breaking, power breaking, and demonstration team events. Additionally, parents, grandparents, children, uncles and aunts can create teams and participate together. This unique ability for families to participate together is one that draws such strong participation numbers.

All Ages and Ranks. Each participant will have 90 seconds to perform a Taeguek or Kukkiwon Black Belt form.

All Ages and Ranks. Each team will have 90 seconds to perform a Taeguek or Kukkiwon Black Belt form. Synchronization and team work is important.

ICF • Individual Creative Forms (poomsae) without weapons

All ages and ranks. Each participant will have 90 seconds to perform a creative form. There are 6 compulsory techniques: 2 front snap kicks (any variation), 2 round house kicks (any variation), and 2 side kicks (any variation). NO Weapons. Music is HIGHLY encouraged.

Synchronization and team work is important. Music is HIGHLY encouraged.

ICB • Creative Breaking (Kyukpa)

All ages and ranks. Each individual will have 60 seconds to setup and 60 seconds to break a minimum of 1 and maximum of 6 boards at their discretion. All boards are 3/8 inch demo board.

IJH • Jumping High Kick

Age 8 and above. Any Belt Level. Each participant will have 30 seconds to attempt to break with running jumping front snap kick. Each participant has only 1 attempt to break the board (3/8 inch demo board) for each round. Participant must break the board to advance to the next round. The participant to break the highest board will be declared the winner.

PKH • Power Breaking Knife Hand (downward)

Age 13 and above. Any Belt Level. Each participant will have 1 attempt to break as many boards (each pine board is 1 inch thick) as they declare with a downward Knife hand strike. All boards will be placed on a board holding stand. The board holding stand is 4 inches tall and will be placed on the floor. The participant who breaks the most boards wins.

PSS • Power Breaking Skipping Side Kick

Ages 8 and above. One Attempt to break 1" pine board on a board holding machine held at a height of waist or higher.

Ages 8 and above. One Attempt to break 1" pine board on a board holding machine held at a height of waist or higher.

SHK • Spinning Hook Kick

Age 8 and above. Any Belt level. Each participant will have 30 seconds to break as many boards as possible with spinning hook kick. All boards are 3/8 inch demo boards.

TDR • Recreational Team Demo

All ages and ranks, but must have a minimum of 5 members age 12 or under. Each team will have 2 minutes to setup followed by 7 minutes to perform a demonstration in a 10m x 10m ring. Synchronization and team work is important. Music is HIGHLY encouraged.

SSS • Padded (Soft) Sword Sparring

All ages. Controlled contact sparring with padded sword. Two Contestants battle for 7 engagement rounds and win by scoring most points. Each round ends when one person scores a point or simultaneous strikes ends in a draw. Target areas are head, torso, arms and legs. Contestant provides helmet and the Tournament provides the face mask and padded sword.
