Description
Due to the recent events with the Coronavirus the event is going to be rescheduled. Registration is temporary closed and will reopen as soon as we have a new date. Thank you for your understanding.
Although the Hanmadang was initially established as a Taekwondo event, the majority of the events can be performed by any style martial artists. In order to provide an opportunity for all martial art schools and styles to participate, we have opened up the California State Hanmadang to everyone who practices traditional martial arts.
It is in this spirit that the California State Hanmadang provides a unique competition experience for all martial arts students. It gives the true majority of students a venue to test and showcase their skills in a plethora of events within Poomsae (forms), Kyukpa (breaking) and Demonstration Teams.
Taekwondo sparring is very well known as an Olympic sport. However, because of the high skill level and physical conditioning needed to be successful at sparring, the average Taekwondo School in the United States only has approximately 10% of the student body participating in sparring class and competitions. This usually also applies to the other martial arts as well. The California State Hanmadang events are for the other 90% of students who do not like to participate in sparring. The California State Hanmadang offers the opportunity for the 90% to showcase their skills in traditional forms, creative forms, creative board breaking, power breaking, and demonstration team events.
The Official California State Hanmadang follows the guidelines, procedures and systems of the world renowned U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang, which is hosted by the United States Taekwondo Committee in Colorado Springs, CO. You can be confident of an efficient, well organized and professional championship for an incredible competition experience!
Congratulations in becoming part of history, as you will be participating in the second annual state level Hanmadang in California!
We’ll see you at the California State Hanmadang!

Judging • The obstacle course consists of running, jumping, crawling, hopping and breaking a demo (1/4") board with hand or foot, and returning to the finish line in the fastest time possible! 1 second will be added for every infraction occurred during the obstacle course. Board Fees
The organizing committee would like to thank you for your participation in the California State Hanmadang! In order to keep registration prices low, we asking participants who compete in board breaking events to pay a small extra fee to cover the cost of their boards. In order to make this easier, we have decided to charge a flat board fee (except for power breaking) which will cover all board costs for that event.
For Individual Creative Breaking (Kyukpa), participants will be allowed to break up to 6 boards. They will be charged $10 for their boards, no matter the number you break. The board fee will be added to your total when registering for this event.
Individual Spinning Hook Kick, will be charged $10 for their boards, no matter the number you break. The board fee will be added to your total when registering for this event.
Individual Jumping High Kick participants will be charged $5 for their first three boards, no matter the number you break. The tournament will cover any number over 3 for this event. The board fee will be added to your total when registering for this event.
All Power Breaking event participants will need to pay $2 per board for their breaks. Boards will be available for purchase during online registration and on site before the event.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
