Description

The USTC Masters Challenge is our annual in-house tournament. This year is a very special event because we will be celebrating USTC's 30th Anniversary. We will have a lot of masters and special guests celebrating this historic event. Be part of the team that will make this event the best Masters Challenge yet! 

USTC students will have the opportunity to challenge themselves in a safe and controlled environment. Students can participate in a variety of Taekwondo events. All students will be divided into categories based on age, weight, and ability at the USTC's discretion. In addition, all students will participate in Opening Ceremonies. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded trophies or medals.

Students can earn 1 red star for participating. A minimum of 4 red stars are required for students to test for their Black Belt. There are only 2 opportunities to earn stars each year (US Open and MC).

Events included are listed in the MC packet. You may pick up a Masters Challenge Packet at your dojang’s front desk.

Volunteers

Our events run on volunteer teamwork and power. We have a number of volunteer positions available. These volunteer positions cover a wide range of skills and needs. Please find a spot where you can lend your time and skills to making our event a huge success.  We need help on Thursday Nov 3th, Friday, Nov 4th, and Saturday Nov 5th. Set-up, Early registration and Breakdown are great places to volunteer if you will have a heavy competition schedule. Parents, family members, and friends of participants can volunteer too!

Any volunteers who sign up for 2 1/2 hours or more get a free volunteer t-shirt, lunch, 1 free spectator wristband, and free admission to the event.   Look over the many spots available and select the times and areas that suit you best. We have many different areas in which you can volunteer. Time requirements are waived for board holders, Hanbok Ladies, and Set-Up & Breakdown crews.  Thank you very much!

Instructions

Before registering for the U.S. Taekwondo Center Masters Challenge you will need the following:

  1. Valid email address
  2. Electronic Picture
  3. Electronic Music File(CREATIVE FORMS ONLY)
  4. All Participant Information (age, height, weight, belt, etc.)

Before completing your registration, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the rules for all events in which you wish to participant. Short event descriptions are available under the Events section with more details and rules available in the Masters Challenge Packets. To obtain a copy of the rules, please check the Resources section or pick up a Masters Challenge Packet at your dojang’s front desk.

MUSIC: For creative events using music, you must submit your music file online prior to registration closing. You may bring a backup copy on cd, USB thumb drive, or iPod to be used in the event of technical issues with your online version.

13 Events

ITF • Individual Traditional Forms (poomsae)
All Ages and Ranks. Each participant will have 90 seconds to perform a Taeguek or Kukkiwon Black Belt form. NO music.

TTF • Team Traditional Forms (poomsae)
All Ages and Ranks. Each team will have 90 seconds to perform a Taeguek or Kukkiwon Black Belt form. Synchronization and team work is important. NO music. 2-10 Members.
  • Team of 2 to 10 Members
  • 90 seconds to perform
ICFWO • Individual Creative Forms (poomsae) without weapons
Requirements: Must be in Black Belt Club, Leadership, or Woosong. All Ages and Ranks. Each participant will have 90 seconds to perform a creative form. There are 6 compulsory techniques: 2 front snap kicks (any variation), 2 round house kicks (any variation), and 2 side kicks (any variation). NO weapons. Music is HIGHLY encouraged.
  • Individual Event
  • 90 seconds to perform
  • Music Recommended
ICFWW • Individual Creative Forms (poomsae) with weapons
Requirements: Must be in Leadership or Woosong. All Ages and ranks. Each individual will have 90 seconds to perform a creative form. There are 6 compulsory techniques: 2 front snap kicks (any variation), 2 round house kicks (any variation), and 2 side kicks (any variation). Martial arts weapons are accepted. Music is HIGHLY encouraged.
  • Individual Event
  • 90 seconds to perform
  • Music Recommended
TCFWO • Team Creative Forms (poomsae) without weapons
Requirements: Must be in Black Belt Club, Leadership, or Woosong. All Ages and Ranks. Each team will have 90 seconds to perform a creative form. There are 6 compulsory techniques: 2 front snap kicks (any variation), 2 round house kicks (any variation), and 2 side kicks (any variation). NO weapons. Synchronization and team work is important. Music is HIGHLY encouraged. 2-10 Members.

ICB • Individual Creative Breaking (Kyukpa)
Requirements: All ages and ranks. Each individual will have 60 seconds to setup and 60 seconds to break a minimum of 1 and maximum of 6 boards at their discretion. All boards are 1/4 inch pine.

  • Break 1 to 6 boards
  • 60 seconds to setup
  • 60 seconds to perform
IJH • Individual Jumping High Kick
Requirements: Must be in Black Belt Club, Leadership, or Woosong; age 8 and above. Each participant will have 30 seconds to attempt to break with running jumping front snap kick. Each participant has only 1 attempt to break the board (1/4 inch pine board) for each round. Participant must break the board to advance to the next round. The participant to break the highest board will be declared the winner.
  • Individual Event
  • 30 seconds to perform
IPKH • Individual Power Breaking Knife Hand (downward)
Requirements: Must be in Black Belt Club, Leadership, or Woosong; age 13 and above. Each participant will have 1 attempt to break as many boards (each pine board is 1 inch thick) as they declare with a downward Knife hand strike. All boards will be placed on a board holding stand. The board holding stand is 4 inches tall and will be placed on the floor. The participant who breaks the most boards wins.
  • Individual Event
  • 30 seconds to perform
IPSSK • Individual Power Breaking Skipping Side Kick
Requirements: Must be in Black Belt Club, Leadership, or Woosong; age 8 and above. Each participant will have 1 attempt to break as many boards (each pine board is 1 inch thick) as they declare with a skipping side kick. All boards will be placed on a board holding stand. The boards must be as high as the participant's waist. The participant who breaks the most boards wins.
  • Individual Event
  • 30 seconds to perform
IPBK • Individual Power Breaking Turning Back Kick
Requirements: Must be in Black Belt Club, Leadership, or Woosong; age 8 and above. Each participant will have 1 attempt to break as many boards (each pine board is 1 inch thick) as they declare with a back kick. All boards will be placed on a board holding stand. The boards must be as high as the participant's waist. The participant who breaks the most boards wins.
  • Individual Event
  • 30 seconds to perform
ISHK • Individual Spinning Hook Kick
Requirements: Must be in Black Belt Club, Leadership, or Woosong; age 8 and above. Each participant will have 30 seconds to break as many boards as possible with spinning hook kick. All boards are 1/4 inch pine boards.
  • Individual Event
  • 30 seconds to perform
IS • Sparring
Requirements: Must be in Black Belt Club, Leadership, or Woosong. All Ages and Ranks. Two 60 second rounds of continuous sparring. Whoever scores the most points wins. Students 13 years old and older (ALL Ranks) can use LIGHT contact with kicks to the head.

Volunteer Registration

Ring assignments are subject to change at any time and for any reason. The organizing committee may deem changes necessary or desirable even minutes prior to competition. Please take this into account when making your plans.

During the tournament, you can watch for your division to be called using the Holding Calls button at the top of this page. Not all tournament hosts use this feature.

To find your ring assignments, try typing your name, a team name and/or an event code/division number.
