Rising Crane Martial Arts Classic

Three Battles Goju Ryu Karate, is located in Lincoln, Nebraska and is proud to be part of the Air Park Community. We are dedicated serving the community and provide exceptional training to all residents. The Dojo which has been open since 2012, is proud to be the training home of multiple state and national champions. Sensei Josh Malcolm (owner/instructor) is a state, national and world champion himself; having trained for over 25 years with some of the best in the Goju style of Karate. This includes a direct line in lineage to the founder of Goju Ryu; Chojun Miyagi. Before moving to Nebraska in 2008, Sensei Josh was helping run the biggest tournaments in the state of New Mexico on a yearly basis. He is excited to offer a tournament that brings new events to the community and the martial arts family here in the Midwest. Rising Crane Martial Arts Classic will offer Koshiki (continuous armored fighting), foam sword sparring and many more.

When registering for the Rising Crane Martial Arts Classic, be prepared to provide the following information:

Please note that while you may make changes to your registration up until the online registration closing date, all registrations are NON-refundable.

Event Selections

The organizing committee would like to encourage everyone to participate in both Traditional Forms and Traditional Sparring. And although participation is only required in one or the other, we are allowing everyone to select both events for the price of one!

When choosing your events, each participant will be required to first select Traditional Forms and/or Traditional Sparring. Then show us your creativity and skill by adding Weapons Forms, Creative Forms, or other events for a small, additional cost.

F • Traditional Forms
Traditional forms are a prearranged group of moments that showcase your skill and ability within the specific teachings of your martial arts style. Every style will compete against each other and be divided by beginner, intermediate and advanced level forms.
  • Individual Event
  • 180 seconds to perform
SP • Traditional Sparring
One on one protected fighting with specific target areas (Side of the head, and body) with points awarded for clean strikes. This is not designed for strength but for skill in attack and counter-attack. Each match will last 2 minutes or 3 points whichever comes first. Divisions will be divided by gender, age and ranks. Sparring gear is not provided you must bring your own. See rules for more details.
  • Individual Event
  • 120 seconds to perform
WF • Weapons Forms
Weapons forms are traditional forms that showcase your skills and abilities with your chosen weapon. Weapons are not sharp and must be controlled at all times during this event.
  • Individual Event
  • 180 seconds to perform
CF • Creative Forms
Create your own form that showcases your skills and abilities. This can be set to a song of your choice, but music must be appropriate for a family friendly audience.
  • Individual Event
  • 180 seconds to perform
CWF • Creative Weapons Forms
Create your own weapons form that showcases your skills and abilities with your weapon of choice. This can be set to a song of your choice, but music must be appropriate for a family friendly audience. Weapons are not sharp and must be controlled at all times during this event.
  • Individual Event

TF • Team Forms
A traditional or creative form performed by 2 or more students without music. Co-ed and mixed ranks allowed, however the lower rank may have to compete up in rank if needed.
  • Team of 2 to 12 Members
  • 180 seconds to perform
TSP • Team Sparring
Teams consist of 3 competitors. Co-ed and mixed ranks allowed, however the lower rank may have to compete up in rank if needed. This is protected fighting with specific target areas (Side of the head, and body) with points awarded for clean strikes. This is not designed for strength but for skill in attack and counter-attack. Each match will last 2 minutes or 5 points whichever comes first. See rules for more details.
  • Team of 3 to 3 Members
  • 120 seconds to perform
FSS • Foam Sword Sparring
One on One fighting with a foam sword, and only weapon strikes will count for points. This is not designed for strength but for skill in attack and counter-attack. Each match will last 2 minutes or 3 points whichever comes first. Divisions will be divided by gender, age and ranks. See rules for more details.
  • Individual Event
  • 120 seconds to perform
K • Koshiki (Armored Fighting)
One on one continuous armored fighting. Competitors must wear full protective gear: head, chest and hand gear provided. Foot protection is required also and if not available at time of match, competitor will be disqualified. Match will last 2 minutes, and points are tallied and revealed at the end of the 2 minutes. See rules for more details.
  • Individual Event
  • 120 seconds to perform

Ring assignments are subject to change at any time and for any reason. The organizing committee may deem changes necessary or desirable even minutes prior to competition. Please take this into account when making your plans.

During the tournament, you can watch for your division to be called using the Holding Calls button at the top of this page. Not all tournament hosts use this feature.

To find your ring assignments, try typing your name, a team name and/or an event code/division number.
For example, type 201 to find the first division in ring 2.
To find a phrase, such as "Ring 1", you may enclose your phrase in quotes.
