Reach for the Stars Taekwondo Open
The tournament will be held Saturday, November 3rd at Iowa Center for Higher Education located at
2280 Bell Ave. Des Moines, IA.
Doors open at 7 a.m.
Opening Ceremnies at 9 a.m.
- This is Taekwondo Tournament exclusively for PARA / SPECIAL NEEDS and BEGINNER Athletes.
- Poomsae, Sparring, and Breaking Competition
- Para Divisions include: Intellectual Disabilities, Visual Impairment, Physical Impairment, and Limb Deficiency.
Tournament Features
- Explanation of the components of a tournament to players, new referees, and spectators by professional instructors and International Level Referees.
- Sparring participants will be using current USAT/WT rules and electronic scoring. Competitors will need to wear arm guards, shin and instep guards, hogus, white or color coordinated helmets, clear or white mouth guard, and groin protector.
- Medals are awarded to all.
- Outstanding Competitor Awards.
- Red belts Ages 14+ are given the opportunity to begin their training as referees.
- Poomsea competition is bracketed, and is "head-to-head" using World Taekwondo standards for judging.
- Breaking Competitors will only break 3 boards.

When registering for the Reach for the Stars Taekwondo Open, be prepared to provide the following information:
- Competitors Photo
- Competitors Name
- Age
- Weight
- Rank

Please note that while you may make changes to your registration up until the online registration closing date, all registrations are NON-refundable.
Divisions
Male and Female divisions will be broken out by age and rank.
Because this is a tournament for beginners, the organizing committee would like to encourage all
Red-Black belts aged 14 and older to referee.
Dragons 5-7 Years White, Yellow, Green, Blue, Red Tigers 8-9 Years White, Yellow, Green, Blue, Red Youth 10-11 Years White, Yellow, Green, Blue Cadet 12-14 Years White, Yellow, Green, Blue Junior 15-17 Years White, Yellow, Green, Blue Senior 18-32 Years White, Yellow, Green, Blue Ultra 33+ Years White, Yellow, Green, Blue
Para/Special Needs
We will also offer para/special needs divisions in Board Breaking, Poomsae, and Sparring as follows:
Poomsae, Sparring, and Breaking P10s - Visual Impairment P20s - Intellectual / Developmental Disabilities P20s - Autism Spectrum Disorder Sparring and Breaking K40s - Limb Deficiencies Poomsae and Breaking P50s - Mobility Impairment (No equipment, walker assist, wheelchair)
