Sparring will be 2-90 second continuous round for ages 5-11 and 2-2 minute continuous rounds for ages 12 on up. This is a medium contact to the body and a light controlled contact to the head tournament.
Legal contact to the body will be between the front of the belt and up to and including the top of the shoulders. Contact between the sides of the belt up to under the arm (flank) is also legal. Legal contact to the head will be the side and forehead of the helmeted face. Contact to the top of the helmeted head and back of the head is also legal. Any intentionally held punches or kicks (3 – 6 inches from target area) to the head or front of the face will be counted as a contact point.
Illegal areas will be; anyplace below the belt, any part of the back, neck and front of the face. Light leg checks used as set-ups are allowed. There will be no hooking, holding or sweeping allowed. No blind contact is allowed.
Fouls (illegal contact, stepping out of the ring, falling down, etc.) will be given a 1st warning first, a point deduction second and the third foul will result in a disqualification for the same offense. The tournament ring will consist of 4-corner point’s judges, 1-center referee controlling the stop/start and safety of the ring and 1-council referee.
Scoring will be based on a 10/9 boxing card using 4 corner judges’ scores. Each foul point will be deducted from the 10/9 score. The 10/9 score will reflect the 4 corner judges scores for all point accumulated.
Points will consist of:
• 1 point for any punch or kick to the body or punch to the head.
• 2 points for any kick to the head.
• 1 additional point will be added to any legal kick/punch that is either jumping or spinning.
Injuries will be an automatic disqualification to the offending competitor if it results in the injured competitor cannot compete. If a competitor causes his own injury and is unable to compete, they themselves will be disqualified. A competitor must stop, back up and raise their hand if injured. A center referee, a council referee, the host or the onsite E.M.T. may at any time stop any match at their own discretion. Once a competitor is injured, they have 3 minutes to recover and must be cleared by the onsite E.M.T. 1st, before they are allowed to continue to compete.
